Elements 101 to 106 were discovered between 1955 and 1974 by groups in California at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the Lawerence Berkeley Laboratory and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Dubna, Russia. Rutherfordium was made in 1969 by a team headed by Albert Ghiorso.
